Dearest Friends and Family,
First of all we just want
to say how much we appreciate
all those of you who have
prayed for us during these
last 2 months! We have
been very busy and have
been through a lot of
separation but we are
thankful for the experience
we gained and the further
knowledge we have that
the Lord's grace IS sufficient!!!!
I will try and recap to
you what has happened
although you must understand
that a lot has happened
and it will be difficult
to retell all of it!
June: Joash was gone for
the whole month attending
a conference which further
helped him in his area
of responsibility, mainly
Culture and Language Acquisition!
He recapped to me that
the most valuable experience
he had was not so much
in content in which he
received but the experienc
he gained in watching
the many experienced consultants
that were there. He was
able to spend some invaluable
time with Paul and Linda
Mcllwain. They lived and
worked among a people
group in Papua New Guinea
for several years. The
outcome of their ministry
is a very mature church
among the Ata people.
Joash was so impressed
by the way they communicated
with not only others with
whom they encountered
but even with each other!
This was so good for him
as we need to be effective
communicators also, not
only with each other and
our co workers but also
with those with whom we
are reaching. Communication
across cultural boundaries
can often be down right
impossible, so it was
such a good experience
for him to see this played
out in many circumstances.
During this month of absence
I found myself very quickly
needing to go back to
the basics, dependence
on the Lord! I found that
I have been too busy for
my families own good and
so during the month of
July, I backed out of
a lot of things I was
doing! This was such a
great thing as the kids
and I just had an enjoyable
time. We had many up's
and down's but in reflection
I see that it was exactly
what we needed to go through.
I needed to be reminded
how important my job is
as a mom! Thanks for your
prayers for us, they were
felt! During this month
also we celebrated 10
years of marriage, what
a wonderful 10 years it
has been!
July: In the beginning
of the month Joash returned
from being gone and after
a week I had to leave
for South Africa . My
mom and nephew were coming
on the 15 th of July and
I needed to go and receive
them and accompany them
up to N. Mozambique .
Since I was going there
anyway and the prices
are so expensive to fly
we decided I would go
a week early and do all
of the medical consultations
that I have needed since
February. It was a very
cold time to be visiting
South Africa as it's almost
twice as cold there as
it is here in N. Moz.
since we are in the midst
of winter. The medical
appointments went very
well and the Lord blessed
me with many great doctors,
many of whom did not even
charge me. All the results
came out well showing
the medicine I'm on for
my kidney condition is
working great, praise
the Lord! I had a few
other tests done which
came out well also!! All
in all things went real
well.
The visit with my mom
and nephew went real well
and I think they had a
good time seeing what
it's like here in Mozambique
. I was sick with Malaria
most of the time but in
the midst we still had
some great times, It was
a real blessing for us
to get a visit from family!
During this time also,
Chloe had an accident!
She poured scalding hot
soup on her tummy which
also burned her seat area
and part of her ankle.
Had we been in the states
we would have taken her
to the emergency room
but being here we couldn't
do that. Immediately we
put her in cool water
for 20 minutes then laid
her on our bed. I poured
pure vitamin E on her
and got to see the extent
of the damages. We concluded
she had a grade 2 burn
since she had blisters
on all the burns. About
10% of her tummy was burned
and most of her bottom
was also covered with
blisters as was one of
her ankles. After one
hour the pain started
to subside, vitamin E
was the direct cause of
that. We can only thank
the Lord we had so much
vitamin E on hand (I am
prone to getting burned,
so I usually am stocked!!!).
If any of you have been
burned you understand
that the feeling of burning
only gets worse, so it
was such a blessing when
the pain started to go
away after so soon. It's
been over a week now and
the burns are healing
nicely. The one's on her
bottom are taking a bit
longer to heal since the
burns were worse and also
she wants to walk around
so it chafes more than
any other area on her
body. She is doing well
so thank you for your
prayers . Continue to
pray that they heal completely
and that she won't have
scarring!
August: The day after
my mom left Joash and
Ian went on a trip doing
a survey of the possible
site where, Lord willing,
we may minister in on
our return from furlough.
We were all suppose to
go on this trip but because
of Chloe's burn and I'm
still recovering from
the Malaria, we decided
it best for Joash to go
and he decided to take
Ian (Ian being more than
thrilled to have Daddy
all to himself!). They
are still on the trip
until this next Tuesday.
We will do another update
with pictures since Joash
has most of the pictures
on his computer.
The end of this month
will find us getting ready
and participating in our
fields first ever “field
conference”, I'm
in charge of the food
aspect along with my co
worker Elin Henderson,
please pray for us!!!!
We are looking forward
to this time and we hope
we won't be too busy making
the conference work that
we won't be able to enjoy
it. All of our teams will
be coming out of the villages
so we can all be together,
it will be a very special
time as we have not all
been together for over
a year, also our NTM Field
Chairman will be flying
in will be our special
speaker during the conference!
We are asking that you
all would continue to
pray for our strength
that it would be an outpouring
of God's grace in our
lives as we seek and savor
our relationship with
our Savior!
Seeking and Savoring Christ,
Delia for us all |
